Emerging Artistic Producer in Residence Program

Do you have a project you want to share with the world but you don’t know how?
Do you have a burning desire to produce theatre but you’re not sure where to start?

*********************

The Major Matt Mason Collective is recruiting an emerging theatre artist for an artistic producing mentorship position! This year-long mentorship program is targeted to support an early-career Alberta-based theatre artist with an interest in creating and producing their own work.

This is an opportunity to shadow the collective as we plan and produce our current season, including the second phase of a devised creation process and the premiere of a new piece of theatre. We will also be offering a series of individual workshops over the year tailored to the interests of our selected artist, as well as supporting them in the development and production of their own practice (eg. starting their own company, seeking funding for a creation project, or planning the premiere of a new work).

On top of twelve years of experience producing indie theatre (granting, contracting, fundraising, audience development, etc.), our team has backgrounds in playwriting, dramaturgy, design, programming, puppetry, performance, teaching, directing, devised work, video/mixed media integration, community engaged art-making, and producing in both traditional and site specific spaces.

Although we are not able to offer monetary support for this mentorship, we will be providing our company’s time and resources through the season as well as supporting the applicant in applying for grant support to fund their time during the year.

This is a year-long position beginning on September 15th, 2024. There is no specific availability commitment required. We are excited to design a unique collaboration alongside a chosen artist that includes:

  • Mentorship from MMMC leadership

  • One on one workshops targeted towards the interest of the chosen artist

  • The opportunity to shadow MMMC producing and pre-production activities for the upcoming season

  • Consultation in developing/producing a theatrical project*

*For the sake of clarity, the goal of this program is to development the artists producing skills, not strictly to develop one specific project.
