Intrepid artists and amateur urbanists, Nathaniel Hanula-James and Wesley Reibeling, try to reinvent one of the most frustrating, opaque, and downright boring processes known to humankind: the municipal consultation. With a little knowledge, a lot of passion, and a concerning amount of cardboard, facilitators Wes and Nathaniel put the art in participation, and create an interactive theatre experience in which audiences work together to address current municipal issues and rehearse for possible futures. At its heart, Flux in the City is a celebration of the glorious messiness that makes every city exciting and unique. In this world premiere of Flux in the City, Wes and Nathaniel have teamed up with local theatre delinquents, the Major Matt Mason Collective, to speak directly to the city of Calgary: its past, its present, and where it might go from here.

Warning: prior experience of municipal consultations is absolutely not required! If you’re passionate about making change in your city but don’t know where to start, we hope we can give you some ideas. If you’re a seasoned urbanist, we hope we can fortify you in the amazing work you’re already doing!
